Myself was founded by young choreographer Kloe Dean three years ago with the aim to represent women positvely through Hip Hop dance. The group is made up of strong female dancers from all over London that train in the styles of New Style Hip Hop, Popping, Locking and Breaking and Waacking to name a few.
The group is named Myself as they represent being yourself and without replicating others.
Kloe really wanted to show that girls can go as hard as guys but can also be feminine without looking cheap. The group has established a name as one of the best all female dance groups in the UK, having performed at the Breakin Convention Tour, B Supreme Female Hip Hop Festival at the Southbank, Collabo at Stratford Circus and Sky 1’s Got to Dance.
On the 4th and 5th of June, Myself competed in first the prelims and then the finals of the UK Hip Hop Championships from which they were awarded 3rd place and now qualify to represent the UK at the World Hip Hop Championships in Las Vegas at the end of July.
The group are now fundraising to raise the money to get the group to the Championships. They are the only all female group that have been chosen to represent the UK against 35 other competing countries.
They will be holding an over 18’s rave and a dance showcase featuring some of Londons finest UK hip hop dance acts. (More info to follow).
Myself also hold open dance classes for aspiring dancers to both males and females every monday from 6.30pm – 8pm at: St Mary’s Youth Club, Upper Street, Angel, Islington N1 OTX. Class is £3 and all money will go towards the fundraising efforts.
Myself are looking for long term funding beyond the World Championships so that we can develop the work we do in the community, offering more opportunities for aspiring young dancers.
